Mother

This Mother’s Day Craft for kids to make is easy and mom will love it, we know all women love candles. Because heat is involved this mother’s day craft must be done under adult supervision. Sand candles are beautiful and very easy to make. The sand you need for this mother’s day craft for kids to make can easily be obtained from the beach, a garden store or even from a toy store. Lots of toy stores keep clean sterilized sand for kid’s sand pits. For me personally, I would prefer the sand from a toy store.

This is what you need for this easy craft:

* First, of course, your sand
* Candles (enough candles so you will have enough wax for the size and amount of candles you want to make)
* Wax crayons in the colors you prefer
* A cardboard box lined with a plastic bag (so the sand will not leak out and make a mess)
* A knife
* Newspaper
* Bowl, cups or anything in the shapes you would like to make your candles
* A fork
* A spray bottle filled with water
* A saucepan for melting the candles (It is best to use an old pan you do not use anymore)

How to do your easy kids craft for mother’s day:

1. Place your sand in the lined cardboard box.
2. Spray the sand with the water until it is moist enough to hold its shape when make a hollow in it.
3. Now, using your cups, bowls or any other mold you prefer, make a hollow in the sand.
4. If you want to make more than one candle at a time you must ensure that there is at least an inch between the hollows.
5. With your knife cut off a piece of a candle to use as a wick. Remember to cut it into such shapes that a little piece of wick sticks out from the wax so you can lit the candle when you want to use it. Obviously as many wicks as you need if you are making more than one candle. If you are making large candles it is also a good idea to use more than one wick for a really pretty effect.
6. Cut up the rest of your candles into small pieces to make the melting process easier.
7. With the help of an adult, melt your pieces of candles in your old pan over a medium heat.
8. When the candles are melted, fish out the wicks with a fork. You can of course remove them before hand and save yourself this rather dangerous part of this craft.
9. Remove the papers from your crayons and add the crayons to your wax to serve as dye.
10. Now you pour the wax into the hollows you made in the sand.
11. Wait a few minutes, just until the wax starts to harden, then you put your pieces of candles that are to serve as wicks in the middle of your candle or where ever you think it will look pretty.
12. Now you have to wait until your candles have hardened completely. Small candles will take about an hour and larger ones longer. Be patient, the end result is worth the wait.
13. When your candles have hardened, gently lift out of the sand and carefully brush of all extra sand.
14. Your candles are now ready for you to wrap as mom mother’s day gift.

This mother’s day craft for kids is suitable for small children. Make a gift for mom for mother’s day. The modeling clay can be bought at any crafts store and it dries very easily within a few hours. It is also best to buy small artificial flowers to use as flowers or, if you can find them, dried flowers and dry grass seeds will be even better. Of course, if the kids are a little older they can make flowers from buttons, florist wire and florist tape.*

Because the pots are small, this is a very good craft for developing the small motor muscle skills in toddlers.

This is what you need for your mother’s day craft:

* Modeling clay
* A pencil
* A thin stick to use for decorating the pot
* The flowers you want to use

Method for this mother’s day craft for kids:

1. Roll your modeling clay into a ball of the size you want your pot to be. (Not too big, as you are only going to make a hole for the flowers with your pencil.)
2. Make a hole in the pot by pressing the back of the pencil into the ball.
3. Shape your ball to form a pot with a flat bottom so that your pot can stand on it.
4. Decorate the pot by drawing patterns on it with a thin stick or a matchstick.
5. Arrange the flowers in the pot and then let it stand in a hot place to harden.
6. Now you have a beautiful flower pot as a gift for mom on mother’s day.

*To make “button flowers:”

1. Use a very small button and push florist wire through one of the holes from the bottom and then back from the top to the bottom through another hole.
2. Twist the two ends of the wire tightly around each other and cover it neatly with florist tape.
3. Now you have a “button flower.”
4. Make as many flowers ad you need.

Older children can make bigger pots and make the hole for the flowers with a thicker stick. You cannot make them too big though or they will take too long to harden and they will probably crack.

Mother’s day crafts for kids to make should result in gifts that really mean something to mom. Now what can be more special than giving mom a coupon book with coupons that can be redeemed when necessary? Make beautifully decorated coupons with promises like “Good For One Week Of Doing The Dishes” or “Good For A Free Hug” or “Good For Hanging The Washing Once” or whatever is suitable in your circumstances. It is obvious that a coupon for a chore the kid has to do in any case is useless and the promise must also be within the kids capabilities. No good can come from letting a three year old make a coupon for “Good For Making Sunday Breakfast Once!” This craft is a little advanced and smaller children will need quite a bit of help with it.

Finding an easy mother’s day craft for toddlers is not always that easy. I know that most people consider making bookmarks rather boring but, we must keep in mind that the toddlers probably haven’t made any yet, so for them, making a bookmark for mom is new. This easy bookmark craft is also a fun way to teach the little ones what happens when different colors are mixed.

Remember, this craft for toddlers needs to be done under adult supervision and the little ones will need help with some of the steps.

This is what you will need for this mother’s day craft:

* A small piece of white poster paper
* A decorative pair of craft scissors (called zigzag scissors by some)
* 4 Colors of thin watercolors (you can find watercolors powder to make these at any crafts store)
* A medicine dropper
* Thin ribbon in a color of your choice
* A punch to make a hole for the ribbon

Method for this mother’s day craft:

1. With your decorative scissors cut a piece of your poster paper to the required size for a bookmark. (Bookmarks do not always have to be the well known size, I have a very pretty one that my granddaughter made that is quite big and it is beautiful. A bigger bookmark also gives you more space to work with.)
2. Now you have to splatter a little bit of clean water on your bookmark. (Not too much because we do not want the bookmark to become too soggy!)
3. Draw one of the colors, of your paint, up into the medicine dropper and drip the paint on different places on the bookmark.
4. Wash the medicine dropper and repeat the procedure with the other the other three colors.
5. You will notice that the colors will flow a little and where they mix the colors will change depending on the colors you used. For the little ones it may be a good idea to use the primary colors.
6. Keep an eye on the kids so that they do not get over exited and use too much water and paint, as the bookmark will then become very soggy and the end result will not be satisfactory.
7. Let your bookmark dry completely.
8. Punch a hole in the bottom of the bookmark and thread the ribbon through the hole.
9. Make a not in the ribbon to keep it in place.

Kids really love doing crafts that can be used in some way. With this mother’s day craft for toddlers they make a gift for mom that she will be able to use for many, many years to come. I hope you and your toddler will enjoy this easy mother’s day craft for toddlers.
