Happy Birthday! Okay, so it might not be your birthday, but if your child’s birthday is coming up, you want to try to make it as fun and as special as you possibly can. There are a lot of things you can do for their party, I’ll get you started with some ideas here.
You should start out with gift bags, you can either hand these out as your child’s friends get to the party, or as they’re leaving. If there is something breakable or fragile in the gift bags you should wait until the end of the party.
You don’t have to fill the gift bags with expensive stuff either. Buy a couple different bags of bite-size candy to put in each child’s gift bag. Candy works the best because kids love it. You might also buy some cheap plastic noise-makers (like the ones you buy on New Years). Craft stores also sell little plastic number puzzles that are very cheap but perfect for gift bags like this.
One of the funnest things I did at my birthday parties was breaking a pinana open. Pinatas are relativley inexpensive, all you have to do is buy some candy and fill it up. Then let each kid take a whack at it until it busts open. If you want to make this game last longer, blindfold each child before they take a swing.
Depending on how many kids come to the party, it might be cheaper and easier to bake a bunch of cupcakes instead of one big cake. You can save the cake for your private family birthday part.
Pin the tail on the donkey is an old game too, but it’s a goodie. All you need is a picture of a donkey with a missing tail. Then each kid is blindfolded and tries to put their tail on the donkey as close to the original tail as possible. Whoever gets the closest gets some type of prize (say a big candy bar).
